Models are divided according to their molecular weight. Each model has a different performance.
Description of PEG (Polyethylene glycol)
:
Chemical properties: Polyethylene glycol is polymerized from repeated glycol diether units and has a relatively high molecular weight. Due to the repeatability of its structure, PEG has good chemical stability and oxidation resistance.
Physical properties: Its solubility decreases with the increase of molecular weight. In addition, PEG also has good thermal stability and cold resistance and can maintain stability over a wide temperature range.
Rheological properties: Polyethylene glycol solution has the properties of a non-Newtonian fluid and its viscosity increases with the increase of molecular weight and concentration. The PEG solution shows viscoelasticity and a certain resilience at a lower shear rate.
Surface activity: Because polyethylene glycol is hydrophilic, it can form micelles in aqueous solutions and act as a surfactant. PEG micelles have a low critical micelle concentration and can be used as solvent remover, emulsifier and other applications.
Biocompatibility: Polyethylene glycol has good biocompatibility and cannot easily cause immune reactions and cytotoxicity. It is widely used in the biomedical field in drug delivery, tissue engineering and gene therapy.
Toxicity and safety: polyethylene glycol is non-toxic or low toxic to humans and animals under normal conditions of use but may cause some adverse reactions when used in excess or improperly, such as kidney damage, gastrointestinal discomfort, etc. Therefore, the instructions for use and the recommended dosage should be followed.

Applications of PEG Polyethylene glycol
:
Drug delivery areas:
Drug carrier: PEG has good water solubility and biocompatibility and can be used as a drug carrier to extend the circulation time of drugs in the body and improve the targeting and bioavailability of drugs. For example, PEG-based drugs can form nanoparticles, liposomes, etc., for targeted therapy for tumors and infections.
PEGylation refers to combining PEG with drug molecules to increase drug stability and reduce drug immunogenicity and toxicity through PEG's hydrophilic and protective effects. This technology is widely used in many drugs, such as protein and gene therapy drugs.
Biomedical field:
Tissue engineering: PEG can be used as a biological material in tissue engineering to build scaffolds, simulate extracellular matrix, etc. This material helps cell adhesion, growth, and differentiation and promotes tissue regeneration and repair.
Gene therapy: In gene therapy, PEG can be used as a gene delivery vehicle to deliver therapeutic genes to target cells. PEG-DNA complex has good stability and low immunogenicity, which can improve gene transfection efficiency and treatment effect.
Cosmetics and skincare:
Moisturizer: PEG has good water solubility and moisturizing properties and can be added to cosmetics and skin care products to improve the moisturizing effect of products.
Softening agents and thickeners: PEG can also improve the texture and touch of products and enhance the user experience.
Industrial field:
Polymer synthesis: PEG, as a polymeric substance, can synthesize other polymer materials or modifiers for other polymer materials.
Nanotechnology: PEG can be used to prepare nanoparticles, nano-drugs, etc., and has a certain application value in nanotechnology.
Production Method of PEG Polyethylene glycol :
Solution polymerization: Ethylene glycol, catalyst and possible chain transfer agent are dissolved in an appropriate solvent, and then polymerization is performed at a certain temperature and pressure. As the reaction progresses, the resulting polyethylene glycol molecules gradually accumulate and replace the glycol monomer in the solvent. After the polymerization, the solvent is removed by evaporation or extraction to obtain polyethylene glycol. This method is simple to operate but requires many solvents, and the purity of the product is limited.
Suspension polymerization: Suspension of glycol monomers, catalysts, and possible chain transfer agents in water to form oil-like droplets. When polymerized at a certain temperature, the resulting polyethylene glycol molecules are encased in oil-like droplets. After the polymerization, the oil-like droplets are separated, and the polyethylene glycol is obtained by washing and drying. This method does not require solvents; the product purity is higher, but the process is more complex.
Melt polymerization: The ethylene glycol monomer is heated to a molten state, and the polymerization reaction is carried out at a certain temperature and pressure. The resulting polyethylene glycol molecules gradually accumulate during the polymerization process and form solid particles. After the polymerization, the solid particles are cooled and crushed to obtain polyethylene glycol. This method is simple to operate, does not require solvents, and has high product purity, but it may cause thermal degradation of the product under high-temperature conditions.
Solid phase polymerization: The pretreated glycol monomer is placed in a high-pressure reactor and polymerized at a certain temperature and pressure. The resulting polyethylene glycol molecules gradually accumulate during the polymerization process and replace the pretreated ethylene glycol monomer. After polymerization is complete, the polyethylene glycol is separated. This method has higher product purity and does not require solvents, but the process is more complex.
