PS-NB Petroleum Sulfonate CAS 61789-85-3

Petroleum Sulfonate is a new type of sulfate anionic surfactant. It is easily soluble in water, has good dispersibility, good compatibility with hard water and high electrolyte stability. Solid content: 45%

About Petroleum Sulfonate:

Water solubility: The water solubility of sulfonates is very high due to the strong hydrophilicity of sulfonic acid groups. Therefore, sulfonate is easily soluble in water, forming a strong acid and weak base salt. In an aqueous solution, sulfonates can ionize sulfonate ions and metal ions, such as sodium ions, potassium ions, and so on.

Ionic: Sulfonate is an ionic compound that can be fully ionized in solution. The ionized sulfonate ions have a strong negative charge and can form stable complexes with metal ions.

Acidity: Although sulfonates contain sulfonic acid groups, their acidity is relatively weak. This is because the combination of sulfonic acid groups and cations in sulfonates is relatively stable, and it is not easy to release free sulfonic acid molecules. Therefore, sulfonates are generally less acidic than the corresponding carboxylic acids.

Oxidation stability: Some sulfonates are stable under high temperatures and strong oxidation conditions. For example, aromatic sulfonates are not easily oxidized at high temperatures, stabilizing them in high-temperature and oxidizing environments.

Thermal stability: Many sulfonates have good thermal stability and can remain stable at high temperatures. However, some sulfonates break down when heated, producing corresponding sulfonic acid and other compounds.

Complexation: Because sulfonates can ionize sulfonate ions, they have a strong complexation ability and can form stable complexes with many metal ions. This complexation makes sulfonate important application value in metallurgy, water treatment, chemical analysis and other fields. For example, in the metallurgical industry, sulfonates can be used as extractors and separators of metal ions. In water treatment, sulfonates can remove heavy metal ions and radioactive substances from water. In chemical analysis, sulfonates can be used as sensitive film materials for ion-selective electrodes to detect the concentration of metal ions in solution.

Bioactivity: Some sulfonates can be used as drugs or pesticides. For example, some sulfonates can inhibit the growth and reproduction of bacteria, fungi, and viruses and have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral effects. In addition, some sulfonates can also be used as herbicides, pesticides, etc., with better biological control effects.

Applications of  Petroleum Sulfonate:

Petroleum industry: Sulfonates are mainly used in the petroleum industry for the acidification and hydraulic fracturing of petroleum products. Acidification refers to the injection of acid solutions into oil formations to dissolve and remove minerals from rocks, increasing the permeability and fluidity of oil. Hydraulic fracturing is the injection of a high-viscosity liquid into an oil formation to create cracks, thereby increasing the permeability and production of oil. As an additive to acidification and hydraulic fracturing, sulfonates can improve the viscosity and stability of acid and hydraulic fracturing fluids, enhance their interaction with rocks, and thus improve oil recovery.

Pharmaceutical field: Some sulfonates are biologically active and can be used as drugs or pesticides. For example, some sulfonates can inhibit the growth and reproduction of bacteria, fungi, and viruses and have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral effects. In addition, some sulfonates can also be used as herbicides, pesticides, etc., with better biological control effects. Synthesis of sulfonate drugs usually involves attaching sulfonic acid groups to existing drug molecules to improve the drug's effectiveness and reduce side effects.

Chemical industry: Sulfonates are mainly used to synthesize organic dyes, fragrances, and surfactants. Organic dyes and fragrances are used to make products such as textiles, cosmetics, and food, while surfactants are used to make personal care products such as cleaners, shampoos, and body washes. As intermediates of organic dyes, fragrances, and surfactants, sulfonates play an important role in the chemical industry.

Metal smelting: Certain sulfonates can form stable complexes with metal ions, which makes them useful as reagents for extracting and separating metal ions in metal smelting. For example, in the smelting of copper, sulfonates can be used to extract copper ions from copper sulfate solutions before converting them into metallic copper. This method can effectively improve the recovery and purity of copper.

Water treatment: sulfonate has a certain application value in sewage treatment and water purification. Certain sulfonates can form stable complexes with heavy metal ions and radioactive substances in water, thereby removing them from the water. In addition, sulfonate can also be used as an auxiliary agent for water treatment agents to improve the effect and efficiency of water treatment.

Agriculture: Some sulfonates are biologically active and can be used as pesticides. For example, some sulfonates can be used as herbicides to reduce the impact on crops by inhibiting the growth of weeds. In addition, some sulfonates can also be used as plant growth regulators to promote plant growth and increase yield.

Surfactants: sulfonates are a class of surfactants with good washing, wetting, emulsification, and dispersion properties.

Production Method of  Petroleum Sulfonate:

Sulfonation: Sulfonation is one of the most common methods of producing sulfonates. The method is to react aromatic hydrocarbons or aliphatic hydrocarbons with concentrated sulfuric acid at a certain temperature and pressure to produce the corresponding sulfonic acid. Common sulfonates such as sodium benzene sulfonate and sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate can be prepared by sulfonation.

Oxidation: Oxidation is another method for preparing sulfonates. The method is to oxidize alkanes or aromatic hydrocarbons under the action of air or oxygen to generate corresponding oxides and then sulfonate with concentrated sulfuric acid to generate sulfonic acid. After the neutralization reaction, sulfonate can be obtained. This method is often used to prepare specific sulfonates, such as alkyl benzene sulfonates.

Synthesis method: Some specific sulfonates can be prepared using the synthesis method. This method usually involves the process of converting other compounds into sulfonates. For example, alcohols can be oxidized to carboxylic acids, which are then reacted with sulfur trioxide to form sulfonic acid and then neutralized to obtain the corresponding sulfonate. In addition, various sulfonates can be prepared by esterification, substitution, and other synthetic methods.

Biological fermentation: Certain microorganisms can produce specific sulfonates through fermentation. This method can synthesize certain compounds through the biological transformation of microorganisms. For example, certain microorganisms can convert sulfates into sulfonates, and this method can be used to prepare certain specific sulfonates, such as L-cystine sulfonates.
