Physical state: Sodium diisobutylnaphthalene sulfonate is usually a light yellow to yellowish brown viscous liquid with a certain odour. The relative density is about 1.05, and the refractive index is about 1.56.

Production Method of Sodium diisobutylnaphthalene sulphonate: 

Direct synthesis method: diisobutylnaphthalene sulfonic acid is obtained by sulfonating naphthalene with isobutanol under acidic conditions, and then sodium diisobutylnaphthalene sulfonic acid is obtained by salting out. This method is the simplest and most common but requires high reaction conditions and technical requirements.

Indirect synthesis method: Condensation reaction of nitro-containing compounds such as phenol or aniline and isobutanol is used to produce intermediate n-isobutyl phenol or n-isobutylaniline, which is then sulfonated with sulfuric acid to obtain diisobutylnaphthalene sulfonate, and finally sodium diisobutylnaphthalene sulfonate is obtained through salting out. This relatively complex method can obtain high-purity and quality diisobutylnaphthalene sulfonate sodium products.

Ion exchange resin method: Using ion exchange resin as a catalyst, isobutanol and acid ion exchange resin exchange reaction to generate diisobutylnaphthalene sulfonic acid, and then through salting out to get sodium diisobutylnaphthalene sulfonic acid. This method allows for obtaining high-purity products but requires specific equipment and operating techniques.

Enzymatic synthesis method: The use of enzyme catalysis, isobutanol and phenolic compounds condensation reaction to produce n-isobutyl phenol, and then sulfonated with sulfuric acid to obtain diisobutylnaphthalene sulfonic acid and finally through salting out to obtain sodium diisobutylnaphthalene sulfonic acid. This method can achieve continuous production and high efficiency but requires specific enzyme preparations and operating processes.
